Did you know that just north of Santa Fe, there’s an epic natural attraction that draws visitors from all over the world? The Rio Grande Gorge is an incredible sight to behold, and it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. With soaring cliffs reaching up 1,500 feet above the riverbed, and spectacular views at every turn, this is one stop you’ll never forget.
If you’re looking to experience the beauty of the Gorge firsthand, here are some tips on how to make the most of your visit.
- What attire should I wear? Dress in some nice comfy shoes and perhaps some activewear if you plan to walk the path and explore around. If your going early in the morning, definitely bring a lightweight pullover sweater.
- Photography tips? For the best views of the Gorge, follow the hiking paths around the rim and stop at the various resting points to capture some great shots. Be creative with the landscape and utilize the lighting of the rising/setting sun to maximize the potential of your pictures.
- Sunrise or Sunset? If you are visiting during the spring, summer, and early fall, I recommend seeing the Gorge at sunrise. The tranquil desert atmosphere mixed with the crisp morning air will make you feel so alive! You will likely be one of very few at the Gorge that early, so you will have the opportunity to take the most spectacular photos without worrying about people crowding your shot.
